The second season's episodes of Star Trek: Discovery will likely only start to unspool in 2019.

The second half of the first season will start in January 2018.

No episode order for the second season of Star Trek: Discovery was announce with the debut of the first season that was marred by several production delays, that saw the date being pushed back several times.

"In just six episodes, Star Trek: Discovery has driven subscriber growth, critical acclaim and huge global fan interest for the first premium version of this great franchise," says Marc DeBevoise, CBS Interactive president and chief operating officer (COO) in a statement announcing the renewal.

"The series has a remarkable creative team and cast who have demonstrated their ability to carry on the Star Trek legacy. We are extremely proud of what they've accomplished and are thrilled to be bringing fans a second season of this tremendous series."
