Alone coming to History from 24 June at 20:55; dropping 10 men on Vancouver Island off the Canadian coast to fend for themselves.

Alone is coming to History (DStv 186) on Wednesday 24 June at 20:55 as a "global TV event", sending 10 men into the wilderness of Vancouver Island off the coast of Canada and promising "one of the boldest and most candid survival experiments ever attempted for television".

The factual entertainment channel from A+E Networks UK on MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV platform is taking 10 men and dropping them on the island off the west coast of Canada, inhabited by bears, cougars and wolves.

Alone is being shown in 200 territories across the globe and on History in South Africa and Africa 6 days after it starts in the United Kingdom.

Alone, produced by Leftfield Productions, is similar to Discovery Networks' Naked and Afraid and The Island.

According to History the "survivalists" are "truly alone with no camera or production crew" and had to film everything themselves.

"Each of the men in Alone could choose the contents of their backpack, but everything else was left in the hands of the environment and their resourcefulness" as they hunt, build shelters and fend off predators to survive.

Viewers will see how the 10 men face "extreme isolation and psychological distress as they plunge into the unknown, self-documenting the entire experience".

In the first episode of Alone, the men explore their new surroundings and slowly come to terms with the challenge that lies ahead.

"As darkness creeps in on their first night in the wilderness, it becomes clear that the only prospect more terrifying than becoming prey to the deadly wildlife that surrounds them is the task of facing all of it alone," says History.
